County admin involved in minor accident

According to police, Hernando County Administrator David Hamilton was issued a citation last August 27 for careless driving.

The ticket was issued in connection with a minor accident at the intersection of Mildred and Jefferson streets, wherein Hamilton reached in the back seat for his satchel and his foot slipped off the break. His car rolled forward, bumping into the rear of the vehicle in front. No damage was sustained to either vehicle.

A county-policy mandated drug test following the accident returned no negative results.

"Lesson learned,'' Hamilton said of the incident noting he would pay his $149 fine and attend traffic school. "I am going to be a much more careful driver.''

Police Have Suspect in Weekend Pedestrian Hit and Run

ABC Action News reports that police have found a possible suspect in a deadly hit-and-run pedestrian accident over the weekend.

74-year-old Shirley Harris was crossing South 4th Steet Saturday around 7:20 a.m. According to police, a 2004 Hyundai Sonata ran a red light, careened into a Dodge truck, then hit Harris. Harris flew over the car and onto the road where she died. The Sonata continued on its path. It then hit a parking meter and crashed into a building on North Fourth Street. After all that, the driver escaped and headed south.

Police have annound that 24-year-old Byron Sterling is a suspect, according to ABC Action News. He was arrested on unrelated charges, "nearly 12 hours after it happened on numerous charges including child abuse and throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle," writes ABC Action News.

 

St. Petersburg Boy Hit by Disney Bus

9-year-old Chase Brubaker was riding his bike with an 11-year-old girl while vacationing at Disney World's Fort Wilderness. They boy's mother, Kelly Brubaker, remembers Chase telling her that this was the best vacation ever. Unfortunately, Chase's vacation and life were cut short when a Disney bus struck him on his bike ride.

Brubaker was pulled under the bus's right rear tire. Emergency responders pronounced him dead on the scene.

Disney says that the boy veered into the road. The 11-year-old girl that was riding with Brubaker and Brubaker's family state that the bus veered over the curb and onto the sidewalk where it hit Brubaker.

Officials are still investigating the car accident, whether the bus driver saw the boy, and if charges should be filed.

The Brubaker family has hired an attorney to recover compensation for their tragic loss at the hands of Disney.

Pedestrian killed in Clearwater car accident Tuesday

A pedestrian was killed in a car accident last Tuesday. According to police reports, the accident occurred on Gulf-to-Bay in Clearwater.
 
The pedestrian apparently was hit while crossing the street. When medical officials arrived at the scene of the accident, the man was later pronounced dead. Police, however, were unable to identify the name of the man.  

Two people killed in Clearwater accident

Two people were killed in an eight-car accident Sunday. According to police reports, the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 19 in Clearwater. 
 
The car that caused the chain of accidents apparently hit a number of cars that were stopped in traffic. After hitting three cars initially, the car struck three more cars. After the accident occurred, the driver fled from the scene of the accident and was not immediately apprehended by police. When medical officials arrived to the scene of the accident, drivers and passengers injured in the accident were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.  

St. Petersburg man injured in single-vehicle accident

A man was injured in a one-car accident Saturday. According to police reports, the accident occurred near U.S. Highway 19 in St. Petersburg. 
 
While police did not release details about how the accident occurred, medical officials were called to the scene of the accident. The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
